2018 Audi A8

The all-new 2018 Audi A8 was finally revealed this past Tuesday at the Audi Summit in Barcelona, loaded with technological innovations and sweet new features.

The new A8 will be the first car released with Level 3 autonomous driving, aka, Audi AI Traffic Jam Pilot. That means this Audi will be capable of driving all by itself at speeds up to 37 miles per hour via a combination of lidar, a forward-facing camera, radar, and sonar. The system will only work on highways with a physical barrier between traffic lanes, and will have set limits on capabilities depending on the national/state laws.

The traffic jam pilot manages starting, accelerating, steering and braking. The driver no longer needs to monitor the car permanently. They can take their hands off the steering wheel permanently and, depending on the laws, perform a different activity that is supported by the car, such as watching the on-board TV.

The new A8 will also be equipped with Audi AI Remote Parking and AI Remote Garage Pilot, which allow owners to use a remote or smartphone to activate a mode that autonomously steers the A8 in and out of a parking space or a garage. The phone app even lets owners watch the car park itself via the A8's 360-degree cameras.

The best development thus far is the optional ‘relaxation seat’, an addition that allows a passenger to warm and massage the soles of their feet. The rear passenger can control ambient lighting, seat massage settings, and their private phone via a separate operating unit.

Audi's New S7

As the auto market becomes increasingly narrow, automakers tend to sharpen themselves up by increasing the sportiness in their designs, and generally assimilating their standard features with each other. The Rambunctious R8

2017 Audi Q7

The Audi Q7 is back for 2017 after a year hiatus- featuring familiar exterior styling and a freshly simplified cabin rich with comfort and top of the line technology. 2017 Audi A5

The 2017 Audi A5 is a four passenger luxury coupe that also comes as a convertible (the Cabriolet). At first glance, the body of the A5 doesn’t appear to have been given much of a redesign for 2017. The shape and size is almost identical to the previous model, but the subtle design enhancements definitely give it more of an edge. The new A5 has deeper cuts with more angular lines than before, as well as larger air intakes and a more defined rear. The adjustments look much sportier and add more masculinity to the overall look. 18-ich alloy wheels, automatic xenon lights, headlight washers, rain-sensing wipers, heated mirrors, and front and rear parking sensors come standard.

2018 Audi Q5

Although the recently released 2018 Audi Q5 mainly holds true to its predecessor’s well-known image, it does offer an all new under-body composition.The Q5 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 L 4-cylinder, and is now paired with a 7-speed S tronic automatic transmission. The engine generates an output of 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. 

The new model comes standard with Quattro all-wheel drive, just as the previous model did. However; the new model is also equipped with Audi’s Ultra technology, which optimizes the AWD for performance and efficiency. The Ultra technology helps save fuel by strictly powering the front wheels as often as possible. However, the system can instantaneously send power and grip to tires that need it most, subject to driving environment and circumstance.

Exterior improvements are in the smaller details this year. The Q5s distinctive design was already undeniably handsome, but the latest shield grille design and sharpened LED lights definitely enhance the overall look. The interior gets a bit more legroom and introduces a slew of Audis latest technology innovations. The Audi virtual cockpit is a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster with a vivid screen, integrated with convenient features such as navigation, audio and phone connectivity, Google Earth, and Google Street View. Other key features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and driver assist features that use radar and sensors to recognize various driving conditions and scenarios.

All Q5s include the expected airbags and stability control, plus a system that begins closing windows and the optional moonroof if it detects a collision, and they can also automatically brake to prevent a collision or mitigate its severity at speeds below 52 mph. Big options include adaptive cruise control that can slow the vehicle to a halt and then start it up again in a traffic jam, as well as blind spot monitors, rear automatic braking, and rear cross traffic alert.

The Q5s redesign could better be described as a selective evolution. Audi keenly kept the winning features of 2017s Q5 rendition while amplifying the overall comfort and connectivity. 2018 S5 Sportback

The Distinguished Audi A4

Although the exterior of the new A4 has undergone some subtle enhancements, sporting sharper lines and a more distinct trapezoid grille, the family resemblance in this one is a nice feature considering that the A4 design is already quite distinguished.

There are three trim levels available for the new A4, with plenty of available upgrades. All levels are equipped with a 2.0 L turbocharged four cylinder motor. The quattro gets 0-60 in just 5.7 seconds, and has a combined mpg of 27. The train is a seven speed dual clutch automatic that comes with DriveSelect, thus we are granted four modes of vehicle operation- comfort, auto, dynamic, and individual. Individual drive mode allows the driver to customize shifts points, steering assistance, damper control, and adaptive cruise control operation.

The 2017 Audi A4 comes loaded with safety features- such as extremely effective braking systems, predictable handling, and the standard pre-sense basic system which tightens seat belts, primes brakes, activates hazard flashers, and starts closing the windows and sunroof if the vehicle senses an imminent crash. Audi Adaptive Cruise Control

                Cruise control is essential for long car trips or even the quick drive to work when you’re taking a highway. Audi is taking cruise control to a whole new level with their Adaptive Cruise Control. Audi’s Adaptive Cruise Control is the 2017 Autoblog Technology of the Year Award Winner.

                Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is not a new concept, but it is evolving, and Audi is at the front of those advancements. ACC is a simple name that is misleading. Typical cruise control keeps your car at a certain speed, ACC keeps your car a certain distance from the vehicle ahead of it. But Audi take ACC to a whole other level, and that’s what makes it award winning.

                The Audi Adaptive Cruise Control, takes your typical use of speed and distance control, and takes into account topography, curves and speed limits. With the Audi ACC, if you pass a speed limit sign the car reads the sign and adjusts the speed accordingly, if you are driving down a curvy road the car will slow appropriately for the slower curves. When paired with Audi’s in-dash navigation feature, the car will start to slow for a turn so you can actually turn without hitting any of the pedals and then speed up once you are through the turn.

                This Adaptive Cruise Control is a layer of artificial intelligence we can get on board with. It's like having a co-pilot to assist the driver when the inevitable fatigue or distractions appear. It engages like a normal cruise control system. Simply pull the lever in the steering wheel mount, and there's a button to modulate the distance. The Audi Adaptive Cruise Control is currently available on the A4 sedan, the Allroad and the Q7, Audi plans on adding the feature the S4 A5/S5 and the Q5, followed by othe future models.

Audi Q8 e-Tron is on its way!

In the ever changing landscape of automobiles, more and more manufacturers are moving towards having all electric vehicles, and Audi is no different. Audi already has the very popular Audi A3 e-Tron hatchback, and they are planning on expanding on the lineup, adding a couple SUV and a sports car to their all-electric platform.

Last week at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, Audi unveiled their concept for the all-electric Audi Q8, which is set to debut sometime next year. The luxury SUV runs on a plug-in hybrid system and is the basis for their other upcoming  e-Trons, the Q7 e-Tron SUV and the R8 e-Tron sports car. While the Q7 is designed to seat up to seven passengers and their cargo, the flagship Q8 is a different take with its more coupe-like roofline. At 16.5 feet long, the Q8 concept is about the same length as the Q7, but since it only has four seats, the amount of space for the four passengers is ample.

The Q8 will use both a 333hp combustion engine and a 100kW electric motor on an eight-speed transmission and three driving modes. The complete system will get 330kW and be able to hit 62 mph in 5.4 seconds. Top speed is 155 mph. The lithium-ion battery has an electric range of 37.3 miles, with a total range, including the engine, of 621.4 miles. A full charge to the battery will take less than three hours.

The Q8 e-Tron has some notable design features that make it stand out for the competition as well as its own brand. The first thing you notice is the new octagon-shaped grill, accented by bold vertical and horizontal bars covering a honeycomb pattern. The head lights are integrated into the entire front of the car and feel as though they are connected to the surrounding air vents.  A strip of lights across the rear of the car makes up Audi’s new “ e-tron light signature” that works both as tail and brake light and as turn indicators.

Audi has yet to release pricing on the eventual production version of the Q8, but it will likely cost well more than the $40,900 required to buy the current Q5 or the $49,000 price of the Q7. And while we wait, check out our other great Audi vehicles and contact us today to take your test drive.

Audi’s Forbidden Fruits

                Many times car brands will release a model overseas and not release it in the states, and Audi is no different. Audi has released the A1 and the sportier version the S1, the Sportback and Cabriotlet versions of the S3, and A6 allroad to the European market. And that makes sense as Europe enjoys the smaller, sportier cars while North America gravitates towards the larger SUV style. But Audi has held out some of their newer SUVs from the American market. The Q2, RS Q3, Q5 TDI and Q7 e-tron TDI have all been kept away from those who crave them.

In America the Q3 is Audi’s answer to the subcompact SUV, but in Europe, there exists the Q2. The Q2 has a wheelbase virtually identical to the Q3, But the Q2 is shorter overall, narrower and has a slightly lower roofline. The Q2 produces a range of 116 to 190 hp depending on whether or not you choose the gasoline or diesel powertrain. This is the pinnacle of the small luxury SUV, but Audi doesn’t believe that the Q2 would have success in the states.

Audi also produces the RS Q3, which represents a perfect mix of style and performance with its turbocharged, 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine that develops 340 hp as well as 332 lb.-ft. of torque. This little speedster goes 0-60 in 4.8 seconds and tops out at 155 mph, just not on American roads

While we will be getting the new 2018 Q5, we will not be getting the 2.0 and 3.0 TDI engines. These TDI models would add to the Q5 being the bestselling Audi in our market, but do to the emissions problems that Volkswagen/Audi has been dealing with over the last couple years, they will stay overseas.

And what could be the crown jewel out of the bunch, the Audi Q7 e-tron TDI. This beast is a rare combination of a plug-in hybrid SUV that’s equipped with a diesel engine. It’s turbocharged V6 and electric motor combine to produce 258 hp, and in full hybrid it can be pushed to 374 hp. Oh and by the way, this Q7 can go to 0-60 in 6 seconds.

Audi Sportbacks are coming!!

Are you a fan of Audi? Do you like hatchbacks? Well Audi is about to make your dreams come true. Audi has confirmed that they will be releasing the A5 and S5 Sportback models in the US. And they should be here in the spring of 2017.

The A5 and S5 Sportback’s have been a popular option in Europe for years, and now that the Sportback is coming to America and it will be just as popular as in Europe. In Europe, the A5 and S5 come in a wide variety of gas and diesel engines and offer both manual and automatic transmissions. We will be limited to two engines here, both have automatic transmissions.

The A5 Sportback will have a turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque and has a seven-speed transmission. This is the same powertrain that A5 coupe and sedan as well as the A4 sedan.  The S5 Sportback gets a 354-horsepower turbocharged V6, which also makes 369 lb-ft of torque and sends power through a conventional 8-speed automatic. Both of the Sportback models are just as fast as the coupe counterpart, reaching 60 mph in 5.7a and 4.5 seconds respectively. The A5 will also be equipped with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive.

                The A5 and S5 Sportbacks will feature the same interior design as their coupe and convertible counterparts.  A couple of the features that are included in the Sportbacks are the Virtual Cockpit LCD instrument panel and MMI system.  The big advantage to the Sportbacks is Audis claim of twice as much cargo room as the coupe and the backseat is much more spacious than the coupe.

Audi has Pothole Power

With the arrival of more and more self-driving and electric cars, Audi is taking innovation to the next level. Audi is creating a suspension that will recharge your batteries as you go over bumps and potholes.

Audi has been working on all-electric cars for a while now, and they have already succeeded with the widely successful e-Tron. Now, Audi is trying to make it easier for you to charge your car without taking up time at your charging station. By using the motion already generated while your cars drives. Currently Audi using Regenerative Braking to help recharge the batteries, but they are planning on moving to a system that harnessing the energy generated by bumps in the road and potholes that litter the streets.

Today, most cars use a traditional coiled metal spring in tandem with a fluid-filled shock absorber that controls the vehicles movement over bumps and around corners.  On luxury and high end vehicles, they have started using a variable-valve or magnetically controlled shocks. Audi has changed the game with eROT (short for electromechanical rotary damper). This uses suspension arms and a series of gears as leverage on an electric motor.

This new system has three main advantages to this system.

1.    The system is more compact than existing suspension systems, and thus gives designers more room for trunk and cabin space and close hugging bodywork.

2.    Instead of physically pushing oil through a shock absorber, this systems allows for more flexibility allowing engineers to tune suspension via software.

3.    And finally the most significant is that the motor harvests energy with every bump, storing kinetic energy to be used later.

"Every pothole, every bump, every curve induces kinetic energy in the car. Today's dampers absorb this energy, which is lost in the form of heat. With the new electromechanical damper system in the 48-volt electrical system, we put this energy to use. It also presents us and our customers with entirely new possibilities for adjusting the suspension."
